Pete Turner, Whose Color Photography Could Alter Reality, Dies at 83 – The New York Times

When I first saw these covers (pre-digital, pre-Photoshop) I was gob smacked. I was doing a late night Jazz show at a small university station and these made my day. . night. It’s also a comment on the graphic loss of the real estate afforded to photographers and designers with the exit of record covers. Creed Taylor, the producer really kicked off this level of design expertise when he started at Impulse, and then carried it to his work on CTI. It really took off there.
